Boykin Springs Recreation Area
This is my favorite place in east Texas. If you hike, bike, fish, feel like swimming in a cold spring fed pond or just wanna hang out in a really nice spot, this is the place. Built just after the great Depression by the WPA, there are still signs of simpler times in this park. For hikers there are lots of foot bridges over the creeks, the sound of gurgling water is such a treat...
Cyclists get ready, just riding the paved roads in this park is challenging. The trails are tougher. There are also miles of logging roads in the area.
In the park, there are plenty of restrooms, cold running water in official spigots, or I just drink out of the waterfall by the watermelon pond. Campsites are neat, clean, well cared for and spaced out for privacy. I can assure you, once you visit this best kept secrete of east Texas, you will be back!
I can't believe I have no pictures of this park. I love it here and guess that I don't think of photo doccumentation when I'm there. I need to get back with a camera, soon (03.04.06).
